Travelling with the little darlings can be challenging, so it pays to be prepared. The aim should be more than everyone surviving the journey intact. Here are my tips for reduced stress travelling. - Talk about the journey - Assuming your children are old enough to understand, a couple of days before you set off, explain to your children about what they can expect on their upcoming trip. - Carry on luggage - If you are travelling with a baby, pack more nappies/diapers and wipes than you think you need, as well as a change of clothing for both your little one and you in case of accidents. If you are travelling with children of 4-5 years old and over, they should carry a small backpack or pull a rolling suitcase themselves for their on-board toys. - Toys & Electronics - Keeping the kiddies entertained is crucial. A new small toy or book can make the journey go a lot easier as they have a novel thing to play with. Alternatively, take a tablet and a good set of headphones to keep them amused. - Food & Snacks - No one wants to be caught short on food or snacks when their little one is getting hungry. So if there is one thing you may choose to overpack, let it be this one. - Lastly accept things will go wrong. Things will take longer, your children are likely to want to go to the toilet at the most inconvenient time, something will get misplaced, there may be vomit and you will have to queue. Just be realistic about what it will be like to travel and give yourself time for things to go awry. We'd love to hear your suggestions on how you make your journey's better for the whole family. I try to find destinations that has something for everyone. When travelling with the family, I'm the culture vulture, my husband likes exploring, the kids like parks, museums with buttons and zoos. So I go hunting for places with all these things; some of our favourite were New York, Valencia, Dubrovnik, Vienna, Prague and good old London. What destinations do you recommend and why?
